WALKING WITH THE PICENI: THE ANCIENT PICENE TRADITIONS

 
ONE DAY TOUR

Itinerary dedicated to the discovery of manual skills and the tradition of know-how linked to the Piceno area and the wine making excellence of these lands. We will start from the Piceni Civilization to get to know their craft skills closely and to discover how their knowledge has evolved over time and come to the present day.

We will begin our itinerary by discovering the Picenian finds kept inside the Archaeological Museum of Ascoli Piceno and we will get to know the tradition of textile and clay processing of the Picenian civilization up close and we will see how the Picenes, even before the Romans, were consumers of wine. The second stop on our journey through antiquity will be the Museum of Ceramic Art where we will see how ceramic processing techniques have evolved over time and admire one-of-a-kind pieces.

After the lunch break we will visit the enchanting village of Offida where we will continue our story about textile art in the Piceno: still today in the streets of the town it is possible to see the lace makers at work who with skilful mastery weave the threads on the pillow to make beautiful lace. From the wine of the ancient Piceni to the excellence of Rosso Piceno: at the Regional Enoteca of Offida we will taste the food and wine delicacies of these lands.

We will conclude our itinerary at the Offida Regional Enoteca where we will taste the typical wines of the Piceno.


ITINERARY DESCRIPTION

MEETING POINT: ASCOLI PICENO ARRIGO SQUARE: 9:30 am - meeting with your own vehicle in the city of Ascoli Piceno, meeting with the guide and presentation of the day’s itinerary.

VISIT NATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM: 10:00a.m. - we will get to know the tradition of textile and clay manufacturing of the Piceni civilization up close and we will see how the Picenes, even before the Romans, were consumers of wine.

VISIT AND WORKSHOP AT THE MUSEUM OF CERAMIC ART: 11:00 a.m.- after having seen the first ceramic works by the Picenes, at the Museum of Ceramic Art we will see how the processing techniques have evolved and admire unique prices of their kind. The visit to the museum will end with a workshop dedicated to the decoration of ceramics.

STOP FOR LUNCH: 1.30 pm

ARRIVAL IN OFFIDA: 3.30 pm - continue our narration on the Piceno textile tradition and in Offida we will get to know the ancient art of bobbin lace making. Even today, walking through the streets of the village, it is possible to see in the hallways of the houses or in the inner courtyards of the houses; we will see a demonstration of bobbin making.

VISIT OF THE REGIONAL WINE SHOP OF OFFIDA: 6:30 pm - we will reach the Regional Enoteca of Offida where we will continue to learn about the Piceno wine making tradition and continue the story of the Piceni’s consumption of wine, which began in the morning at the Archaeological Museum. We will conclude the visit to the Enoteca with a tasting of wines and typical products of the area.
