Breakfast in the hotel. Morning guided sightseeing of Fabriano, whose history is closely linked to the paper: it is one of the very few cities in the world where paper is still made by hand today. Sightseeing of city centre: the Palazzo del Podestà, the Sturinalto fountain, the Cathedral of San Venanzio with its frescoes, the Town Hall, the numerous churches, the Gentile Theater. Free lunch. In the afternoon, visit to the paper mill and museum, the place where comes to life the keeper of words and thoughts that span the centuries. The visit offers the chance to take part to the creation of the sheet of paper. Free dinner and overnight
3 DAY FABRIANO / FONTE AVELLANA / FABRIANO
Breakfast in the hotel. Transfer to the Hermitage of Fonte Avellana and visit of the complex, probably built at the end of the 10th century, around 980, and known above all for the writing activity of the amanuensis monks, who lived according with the Rule of San Benedetto and created precious manuscripts, as the ancient Scriptorium still testifies today. Other valuable and worthy place is the Library, preserving today almost all the ancient book patrimony of Fonte Avellana, which consists of about 20,000 volumes (the oldest book is an incunabulum of 1470). Return to Fabriano. Time at disposal. Free dinner and overnight.
4 DAY FABRIANO / TREIA / MACERATA / RECANATI
Breakfast in the hotel. Transfer to Treia, a medioeval town with Roman origin, and sightseeing: the scenic Piazza della Repubblica, framed on three sides by the Georgian Academy, built by Valadier, from the Town Hall (XVI XVII century) which houses the Municipal Art Gallery and the church of San Filippo; the life of this town was well represented by the writer Dolores Prado in her best known book. At the end transfer to Macerata. Free lunch. In the afternoon sightseeing of the city: the Sferisterio arena, born as a stadium for a typical game (the bracelet ball) and now used as stage for the local summer opera season; the Lauro Rossi theater, Palazzo Buonaccorsi, the Mozzi-Borgetti historical library. At the end transfer to Recanati. Check-in in the hotel and welcome drink. Free dinner and overnight.
5 DAY RECANATI / CIVITANOVA MARCHE
Breakfast in the hotel. Morning guided sightseeing of Recanati: Casa Leopardi with the Library (birthday place of the great poet Giacomo Leopardi), Villa Colloredo Mels, the theater and the house-museum of famous opera singer Beniamino Gigli, the Malleus Castle, an amanuense activity in a modern version. Free lunch. Afternoon sightseeing of Civitanova Marche, from the port and the seaside village, the first settlement, with the historic lighthouse close to the Church of Cristo Re, the narrow streets and typical fishermen houses, up to the hill to the upper village, where the inhabitants took refuge in the Middle Ages to escape the assaults of the Goths. Civitanova Marche is the birthplace of the poet and great 16th-century humanist Annibal Caro. Return to the hotel in Recanati. Free dinner and overnight.
