Saltara - Procession of the Dead Christ

Every year on Good Friday in Saltara, at around 09,00 p.m., takes place the traditional Procession of the Dead Christ: this event of medieval origins livens up the old village since 1847, when the first procession by the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Sorrows took place.
As tradition dictates, along the downtown streets Roman soldiers on foot and horseback open the procession and escort a hooded Cyrene, played by an anonymous faithful.
There follows a procession with the apostles, the holy women, commoners representatives of the arts and crafts of the village, all of which are played by local men, women and children. It concludes the parade an old bier on which the body of the Dead Christ lies on the knees of Our Lady of Sorrows.
During the procession short meditations of the Via Crucis will be read to help those present with meditation and prayer.
