Concert by Elio and Rocco Tanica on Sunday 29th July in Santa Maria in Pantano, in the territory of Montegallo.
Montegallo is a mountain town situated at the elevation of nearly 900 metres above the sea and in summer it's an appreciated destination for many tourists.
Montegallo is probably named after a rooster represented in the town emblem. Roosters sing at dawn to announce the new day, the end of the dark, the arrival of the light: so maybe this is the reason why esoteric researchers were really interested in this little village built under the impressive Mount Vettore, the highest mountain in the Sibillini range.
Montegallo is formed by 23 hamlets, scattered in the whole territory: those little villages are typical examples of the urban architecture from the 15th to the 18th centuries.
The administrative centre is in Balzo.
Architecture was influenced by the presence of the Benedictine monks who built the ancient church of Santa Maria in Lapide, which was very powerful in the past. It was rebuilt in the 16th century and details, such as loophoples, attest that it it was built also for defensive
purposes. After the earthquake in the year 2016 the church is very damaged.
Very old is also the Church of Santa Maria in Pantano (8th century) where frescoes representing the Sybil could be seen. The earthquake occurred in 2016 destroyed the ancient church.
In the hamlet Uscerno there's a farmers' museum and in Fonditore the place of birth of Blessed Marco.
Worth mentioning is Palazzetto Branconi, seat of one of the offices of the Sibillini National Park and of the Centre for Environmental Education (C.E.A.).
Very appreciated are the truffles and chustnuts coming from Montegallo. Other typical products are honey, cheese and salami.
The historic center, the monuments and the museums of the town are partially accessible. For information please write to Toll-free Number Marche Tourism (numeroverde.turismo@regione.marche.it) or contact the phone numbers listed below.
