Carpegna deserves to be visited for its woods and for the beautiful landscapes surrounding it. It belongs to the Sasso Simone and Simoncello Natural Park whose seat is here.

Many paths for trekking or for mountain bikes are available for visitors; in the many restaurants, lodges and chalets  you can try the local specialities. The town sits on the border between the Province of Pesaro, in the Marche, and Tuscany. It is situated in a picturesque valley which rises up from the town (at 748m) to the peak of Monte Carpegna (1415m) after which it was named.
During Medieval times, this was the seat of the Counts of Carpegna who continued to rule here until 1749. From this family the Counts of Montefeltro, the Malatesta and the Della Faggiola families also descended. The Palazzo dei Principi, at the very centre of the town, stands witness to this noble past. It was designed by the architect Giovan Antonio De Rossi in 1675 for Cardinal Gaspare di Carpegna.

Carpegna is the area of production of the well known Prosciutto di Carpegna that carries the D.O.P. Label , to which the Ham Festival is dedicated in July.
