Situated along the road known as the "montelabbatese", it stands in the Lower Foglia Valley, fairly close to Pesaro.
As the name of the town suggests, this was once "Monte dell'Abate", a hill castle belonging to the Abbey of San Tommaso in Foglia (10th Century). Its austere Romanesque church, built with a triple nave, can still be visited.
The town of Montelabbate and the borgo below, is known today for its annual "Sagra delle pesche" (Peach Festival) - the surrounding area has many large producers of this fruit.
