Force is a little, picturesque medieval hamlet, placed on the natural line of a tight and long upland, 690 meters above sea level. Its name is probably linked to its geographic position, a pass (also called “forca”in Italian) in the middle of the three valleys of Aso, Tesino and Tronto rivers. Due to its position, almost equidistant from the mountains and the sea, it boasts suggestive natural landscapes rich with mountains, woods and valleys, and stretching down to the Adriatic sea. In the heart of the village, a panoramic terrace offers a perfect and almost complete view of Monti Azzurri (“The Blue Mountains”). Along the north side of Force lies the enormous cliff of Montefalcone Appenino, on the Piceno side of Monte dell’Ascensione crags; the Sibillini mountains close its western side. Quinzano is a borough of Force, 699 meters above sea level. It is a castle historically tied to its municipality, whose crest it imitates, and was built on top of a hill along the road leading from Force down to Ascoli. Even though many landslides and restorations altered its original aspect, it still keeps some appeal, due to its isolated and quite panoramic position. The round, most ancient and highest part of the hamlet did probably host the citadel, whose shape and size we now can only imagine.
