The monastery of St. Anthony the Apostle in Potenza Picena is one of the oldest settlements of the Franciscan Order. According to tradition, it was founded by two sisters of Holy Claire while she was still alive.
The architecture of the monastery is very simple, according to the ideals of the Franciscan order and it was widened during the centuries so that it occupied a large part of the northern part of the historical centre. The church, instead, was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century and the previous building was demolished almost completely. The inner part is in Baroque style, except for the altars in polychrome stone in neoclassical style made in 1780. The monastery is first documented in a seal by Pope Gregorio IX on 20th October 1227.
