The museum gathers and exhibits objects of the material and daily life of the nuns of the cloistered convent of Santa Maria Maddalena in Serra de 'Conti; a life marked by silence, embroidery, reading, design, prayer, but also the packaging of sweets, crib statuettes, ritual clothes weaving etc., according to the rules of the Poor Clares Nuns.In the room where’s the lab you can watch a video showing the nuns living in the monastery today carrying out their normal activities. The exhibition, characterized by a direct contact with the objects presented and complemented by an interactive and multimedial type of exhibition, offers visitors the unique opportunity to get closer to the cloistered world with its own rules and its uses through the story-telling of the monastery. The exhibited objects were found in the rooms of the Monastery of Santa Maria Maddalena, which since 1586 has been maintaining its original location next to the museum. The present monastery of Santa Maria Maddalena stands on the ruins of an existing building documented from the first half of the fourteenth century and abandoned at the beginning of the following century due to the poor structural conditions. In the second half of the sixteenth century a community of Poor Clares Nuns from Pesaro became the promoter of the rebuilding of the religious complex together with the City of Serra de 'Conti, after gaining Pope Gregory XIII’s interest. The works on the construction of the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena began in 1603, almost twenty years after the reopening of the convent, and ended at the end of that century. The structure, incorporated into the monastic complex, is particularly interesting for the ellipsoidal shape of the plant, which seems to evoke the soft curved space opening and closing conceived by Borromini for the Roman church of Santa Maria dei Sette Dolori (Virgin Mary of the Seven Sorrows) (1643-1646) To be mentioned the wooden furniture, whose high artistic quality ornaments, distinguish the elegant environment of the monastery.
