Cingoli – Cingoli 1848

This event is meant to spread the knowledge of customs and traditions that are part of the history of Cingoli: moments of 19th century life, both of the popular sphere and of the courtly one, are reconstructed pursuing the cultural study, yet under the sign of entertainment and fun. Originally the whole "event" was centered on the Game of the Ball with the Bracelet, a recreational activity widely practiced in the '800s, which is being revived. Parades of walk-ons accompanied the players to the town arena, where the teams of Terzieri of St. Mary, St. Nicholas and St. John contended the Palio, a wooden trophy.
Today, besides the Game of the Ball with the Bracelet, the focus is on the artisan work around which the life of common people revolved, on the playful side of rural life with its moments of aggregation elapsed between dances and simple games, on the habit of women to work in company, on religion, on public offices that ruled public life and least but not last on food.
The life of the aristocrats of yore can be summed up in the Grand Ball; an opportunity to forge alliances, to arrange marriages, to show their status or acquire it. The re-enactment then concludes with what has become one of the major attractions of this event, also known as "Midsummer Gala", to say a dance with waltzes, quadrilles, contredanses and coutillon in historical costumes.
