Every year, a living Nativity Scene is set up in the village since 1990.
This event has started after a research of the local secondary school on the habits, dresses, crafts of that time so that they could make a faithful reconstruction of the environment where Jesus was born. Then they’ve become the actors together with their parents and teachers, as they’ve turned into shepherds, carpenters, blacksmiths, inn keepers, wood weavers, bakers, merchants, priests etc.
In the charming Christmas atmosphere, scenes of everyday life are recreated in the cellars, lobbies, squares and along the narrow streets of the village, using decorations and ornaments, patiently searched and selected or made by pupils or their parents.
In the winter night lit only by fires and torches reality becomes an unknown and remote past and the religious event becomes magic. All of the people who have visited Piobbico can say how strongly actors identify with their role and describe the fascination of the visitors who go back in time in emotional silence.
From Piazza Sant’Antonio to Palazzo Brancaleoni, children and adults wearing traditional costumes perform live the main scenes of the Nativity.
