Santa Vittoria in Matenano belongs to the mountainous administrative district of Amandola, in the province of Fermo. It is named after the Roman martyr whose body was brought here by monks in 930. Her magnificent marble sarcophagus, supported on two pillars, stands in the crypt of the parish church, at the far end of the town. The story of Santa Maria in Matenano is entirely linked to the feud of the Imperial Abbey of Farfa that established  the seat of the Vicar Abbey here. The old town center retains the medieval layout and features brick houses. Along the main street are some of the oldest  palaces like Palazzo Melis, Palazzo Conti della Torre, Palazzo Sepe-Monti and the church of St. Agostino ( it partially collapsed after the earthquake in 2016). One of the most remarkable religious sites is the Benedictine Monastery, with the little church of St. Caterina.

The historic center, the monuments and the museums of the town are partially accessible. For information please write to Toll-free Number Marche Tourism (numeroverde.turismo@regione.marche.it) or contact the phone numbers listed below.
