Church of St. Francis

This is considered as the most ancient Franciscan complex in the entire Marche region, since it was founded by Saint Francis of Assisi himself following the suggestion of the Acquaviva family and it was totally restructured as well as declared a holy place again in 1989.
The church has a simple gabled façade; the apse is square. The small rib-vaulted bell tower has a double-arched window with two bells. The square cloister, around which the monastery is located, is characterised by three large arches on each side and a well at its centre. The interior part of the church has a single nave with two side altars respectively dedicated to St. Francis and St. Anthony of Padua. On the counter-façade, the stone statue of the Knight Giambattista Smacchia of Loreto is located in a recess. Along the nave, two stucco medallions depicting the miraculous events the church was protagonist of in 1673 can be seen.
The apse houses a painting portraying Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
