The convent and the Church of Santa Croce, also known as the Sanctuary of San Pasquale, is situated on a hill outside the city centre of Ostra Vetere. The construction of the Church and the Franciscan monastery dates back to the early seventeenth century. The building has undergone several alterations over time. The interior has an only nave with a rectangular apse, it is decorated with pilasters, stucco and gilded moldings. To the left of the aisle there is a chapel dedicated to San Pasquale, built in 1922-23.There is also an organ Callido, realised by the famous manufacturer from Venice in 1788. The cult of the Saint of Spanish origin has been celebrated, since its foundation, every year on May 17th. The cult, which every year attracts thousands of worshippers in Ostra Vetere, is documented in Montenovo at least from the early eighteenth century.
