Francesco De Gregori in concert with Philharmonic Orchestra of Marche and Gnu Quartet on Thursday August 3 2017 near the Macereto shrine, Visso municipality.
Visso sits in the very heart of Sibillini Mountains National Park. Due to its characteristics, it is in the list of the most beautiful Italian hamlets and was awarded the Orange Flag. The old historic centre reflects its rich history. Medieval buildings stand near renaissance palaces embellished with precious details. Here painter Paolo da Visso was born in the XV century. A building worth mentioning is Palazzo Leopardi, the summer residence of the poet’s relatives; a museum of Giacomo Leopardi’s manuscripts is hosted in the Palace of Governors. Furthermore, Varano Palace was the residence of the Varano from Camerino dukes. Famous is the Macereto shrine, at a distance of 9 km from Visso, in an isolated and suggestive location. Built in Bramante style during the first half of the XVI century, it contains frescos by Simone de Magistris. As for more worldly necessities, cheese and cured pork meat are very appreciated local products.
