Ancona - Merchants’ Loggia – Great Hall and “Tibaldi” Hall

Loggia dei Mercanti is an emblem of the merchant spirit of Ancona. Erected in the heart of the city, close to the port, it can hardly be unnoticed, impressive and rich with ornamental details as it is. That is where merchants dealt their business. Designed by architect Giovanni Pace in 1442, its Venetian-Gothic style external façade, built by architect Giorgio da Sebenico, is opened by three arches; on top of four columns there are statues representing Hope, Fortitude, Justice and Charity. Inside there are a great hall, and a basement with a little hall dedicated to painter Pellegrino Tibaldi. Both halls host events and meetings; since a while, it is also possible to celebrate there civil weddings.
