Poggio San Marcello is the smallest town in the province of Ancona and stands on a hill on the left bank of the Esino river. It is about 18 kilometers far from Jesi and about 50 from Ancona. It borders with Castelplanio to the south and south / east; with Montecarotto to the west, with Belvedere Ostrense to the north and Rosora to the south/west.
The old part  is surrounded by walls equipped with towers, one of which is pentagonal, and with two gates, Porta San Nicola and Porta del Soccorso, topped by the coat of arms of the Municipality of Jesi.  This oval shaped  town is crossed by two main streets: Corso Tarcisio Tassi and Via Corriola. The most important religious sites are: the seventeenth-century Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso and the eighteenth-century church of San Nicolò, adorned with a fourteenth-century fresco, a Gothic crypt of the same century and a valuable canvas by Antonio Sarti. The Palazzo Comunale ( town hall) built in 1772, with its  finely frescoed council hall, houses the Theatre.
