Pieve del Colle Balcony

"From the Balcony in Pieve del Colle, you can admire the amazing backdrop of the Triumphant Chariots of the Diptych of the Dukes of Urbino. Federico and Battista Sforza, both Counts of Urbino, are portrayed facing each other on the terrace in front of the Pieve del Colle, which opens onto the beautiful plain of the Metauro. The valley of the Triumphs is a vast plain crossed by the Metauro River straddling the towns of Urbania, Fermignano, Urbino, and Acqualagna. At the edge of the valley, a chain of hills joins as to draw a large amphitheatre. On the first terraces and on the highest part of the hills there is always a Church, a chapel, a monastery. For this view, Piero della Francesca uses the "aerial perspective" technique. From the resort Pieve del Colle it rises to about 1000 meters above sea level to embrace a territory from San Silvestro on Metauro's plain widens up to Urbino, to the Cesane mountains, and then reaches Ancona. It is possible to visit the balcony, which is located in Piana di San Silvestro between Fermignano and Urbania.
