Monterubbiano is already known as the“ Village of Nativity Scenes” for the national exhibition of Christmas cribs contest staged at the Polo Culturale San Francesco.
It also organizes together with the nearby municipality of Moresco a very characteristic Living Nativity in the shape of a theatre performance called “ Joseph and Mary looking for a lodging”.
It’s some sort of pilgrimage which starts in Porta San Basso, the main gate to Monterubbiano, and reaches the Cave and the representation of the nativity of Greccio, which is set on this occasion in the Cultural Centre of St. Francesco. A single joyfully silent parade follows the Child, Mary and Joseph, angels, shepherds, knights and dames. Around them a moving and magical context of people in movement made evanescent by lights and torches and blurred by the fog.
OPENING TIME: Dates: 12/8 to 1/6, 10.00 to 12.00 a.m. and 4.00 to 7.30 p.m.
