The lamb from Central Italy has earned the PGI.It is the lamb born and raised in the territory of central Italy, obtained from a population of sheeps historically present in this range, with different attitude, generically called "Apennine" and from which the current local breeds were obtained giving rise to a lamb of excellent quality meat. The Lamb meat of the Central Italy are highly appreciated by consumers, both through the traditional butchers’ network, either through catering, especially the one becoming part of the agritourism network. Lamb is widespread throughout the region, touching its height for quality of meat to Upper Montefeltro, Sassoferrato and around Visso. The cuisine of this meat is in strict connection with the lifestyle of those who produce it.
