Matelica - Abbazia di Roti

Lorenzo Jovanotti in concert on Sunday August 5 2018 at 4.30 p.m. With a holiday on the meadows of Matelica and San Severino Marche, in the spirit of RisorgiMarche, the singer does thus close the second edition of the event.

The road moves from Matelica and reaches into the Regional Natural Reservation of Mount San Vicino and Mount Canfaito, an extraordinary, untouched natural environment, rich with canyons and gorges, with magical trails and a variety of plants and woods. This is where one finds the ancient Braccano, a little historical village, now a borough of Matelica. Not far from here, but quite far from chaos and traffic, there is the place where once existed the ancient Benedictine monastery of St. Mary of Rotis, now called Roti Abbey. The ancient building is supposed to date back to the IX-X centuries. History tells that it was built where once an ancient pagan temple existed, whose solar cult originated the name of the abbey.  Its peculiar beauty was remarked first by the hermit monks who had settled here, then by the Benedictine monks who founded the abbey. It is also told to have been a shelter of the famous and mysterious Templars. Even though the building is now condemned, both because it was vandalized and due to collapses caused by the 2016 earthquake, it still keeps its ancient charm.
