To reach the ditch of Scaloni you must leave from the little church on the edge of the historic center of Pierosara, then enter the pine forest. At a certain point, the dirt comes down to the path and cross a small wall made of loose rocks. Going further, you pass a stream and go along the hillside along the eastern slope of Mount Frasassi. Shortly you goes up as far as the Cave of Mezzogiorno: the trail climbs steeply through the woods and you reach the spectacular Foro degli Occhialoni. Some rocky steps lead into the open space, behind the thin ridge that on the other side  falls onto Frasassi Gorge. This is an historic trail, which owes its name to "Steps", or "Stairs". For safety reasons and respect for wildlife on the walls that surround the gorge, the trail ends at this point and you can not go further.
