Pesaro - "Rossini’s birthplace"

Gioachino Rossini’s birthplace is historic. The ground and first floors were built during the fifteenth century, the second and third storeys are later additions. The greater part of the front and interior were restructured during the early decades of the eighteenth century. Gioachino Rossini was born here on February 29th.1792 where he spent the first years of his life with his family. The Municipality bought the building in 1892, a hundred years after the composer’s birth; the house was transformed into a museum and declared a national monument in 1904. The building was restored in 1988-’89, the structure consolidated and exposition reorganised along scientific lines.

Collections: The exhibits are the fruit of various donations to Pesaro, for the most part dating back to the close of the nineteenth century. The largest collection came from Paris, donated by a great collector of Rossini memorabilia, Alphonse Hubert Martel. This collection consists principally of prints, engravings and lithographs connected with the life and operas of the composer. The collection also includes numerous official portraits of Rossini and whole series of singers who contributed to the success of Rossini’s operas in France.
