Abbadia di Fiastra Nature Reserve

Abbadia di Fiastra Nature Reserve covers an area of 1.834,28 hectares of protected land. It was established in 1984; the towns included in the reserve are Tolentino and Urbisaglia. The territory has a typical river morphology characterized by bands of almost flat valley and low terraced hills. The "forest" , the heart of the area, stretches for over 100 hectares. The most typical trees are: the oak, the ash and the maple; the wildlife includes the roe deer, the beech-marten, the sparrow-hawk, the tawny owl, the hoopoe and the green woodpecker. The reserve houses the Abbazia di Fiastra, one of the great Cistercian abbeys founded under the wing of Clairvaux in France . A few km further south stand the remains of Roman Urbs Salvia, a city founded in the 1stC BC.

Following the sismic events of 2016, it is advisable to contact the Information center to verify the possibility of visiting the Palazzo Giustiniani Bandini, the museums and the abbey complex.
