On the banks of the river Chienti, placed alongside an important crossroads since ancient times, Muccia boasts a lot of archaeological finds from the Neolithic era and remarkable fifteenth-century Churches.
In the Middle Ages, under the name of Mutia, it was a strategic location for the processing and trade of corn seeds, so much so that the lordship of Da Varano from Camerino erected a castle in defense of mills.
Here also Beato (blessed) Rizzerio was born, a follower of S.Francesco d' Assisi and founder of a wonderful Franciscan hermitage, an oasis of peace and meditation.
The municipality is part of the "Associazione Nazionale Città dei liquori" (National Association of Liqueur City), based in Saronno and adheres to the tourist circuit of the Sibillini Mountains, Lands of Parks and Enchantment in order to promote and enhance the local tourist offer.
Muccia has always been a place rich in flavours: different types of pecorino cheese, cold cuts, black truffle which is found in these areas; moreover, some liqueurs such as Amaro Sibilla and Varnelli, an anise-based liqueur.

The historic center, the monuments and the museums of the town are partially accessible. For information please write to Toll-free Number Marche Tourism (numeroverde.turismo@regione.marche.it) or contact the phone numbers listed below.
