Originally, the theatre of Cagli was inside the Town Hall to perform Bernardino Pino’s play in 1585. The current theatre was built on another area of Cagli between 1870 and 1878 by the architect Giovanni Santini and partially revised by the engineer Coriolano Monti and Lorenzo Priori.The building is the symbol of the eclectic style. The late-16^th-century façade has three arched ashlar portals, which alternate with ground floor windows, balcony, and five rectangular windows. Four inscriptions, placed between the windows at the first floor, are dedicated to the main characters of the National Unity. The foyer is divided into nine bays and cross vaults supported by four Doric columns. The hall has 50 boxes arranged on three levels and gallery. In the proscenium, the decorations consist of golden stucco works, frames, ornaments by Alessandro Venanzi and Tito Azzolini. In the stage, there are old work machinery, such as pulleys, curtain, machine for lights, and nine stage backdrops. After few years of closure due to the need to comply with safety standards, the theatre is nowadays working.
