The original Teatro della Fortuna in Fano was built in 1665 by the great theatre and set designer Giacomo Torelli though it was rebuilt in its present form in the 19thCentury by the architect Luigi Poletti and opened in 1863. It was re-opened for a second time in April 1998 after being restored to its original splendour following damage during the Second World War. The 900-seat interior is in neo-classical style. At that time, Poletti's design represented a new, innovative approach to the use of space in the theatre which succeeded in re-interpreting the traditional Italian Classical theatre style with a unique architectural harmony.
