Fermignano – Grand Prix of the nineteenth-century Penny-farthing Bicycle

In mid-September, in Fermignano, it is held the Grand Prix of the nineteenth-century Penny-farthing Bicycle. This unique event in the world was born in 1966, held successfully for several years but after 18 years of oblivion it was decided to dust off these vintage bicycles and dispute the Grand Prix with the seven districts that vie for a Golden bicyclo through a three-day event and two categories: members and amateurs. To enrich the event: flags in the old town, exhibitions, music, food stalls, dancing, open-air market, the fair of bicyclo along the streets of town, different kinds of competition, tasting of typical dishes and the blessing of Bicycles followed by an historical procession.
Thanks to its originality and showmanship, the Gruppo Storico Biciclo Ottocentesco (Historical Group of the nineteenth-century Bicyclo) has taken part in numerous other events in Italy and abroad: it is the only historical group in the world to have performed in the most famous carnival in the world, that of Rio de Janeiro, and precisely in its most important event called the Night of Champions.
The Group has about 50 elements: the Bicyclo Band, the nineteenth-century costumes and the bicycle riders of the 7 city districts along with their competition judge.
