Fermignano - Palio della Rana

Every year, on the Sunday after Easter, Fermignano recalls his enfranchisement from Urbino, which occurred in 1607 by permission of Francesco Maria II della Rovere, the last Duke of Urbino, and was greeted by great celebrations. The tradition continued for years but then gradually disappeared until 1966 when the Pro Loco Association, to make the present generations revive the climate of this celebration, restored it most original race, the Race of the Frog on Push-cart, yet framing it in a regulation and giving it the official title of Palio della Rana.
Disputed between the seven Contrade of the town (La Torre, Cà Agostina, San Lazzaro, San Silvestro, Calpino, La Pieve, Santa Barbara), the Race of the Frog on Push-cart is preceded by the arrival, in square, of the historic procession of the Ducal Court of Urbino, accompanied by musicians.
Related events are: market of local arts and crafts, demonstration of ancient crafts, laboratory of archery, musicians, archery tournament, flag wavers and jugglers, fire games, game-in-arms, Solemn Mass and blessing of the frogs, Palio of the Putti, taverns open for a typical dinner and much more.
