Rifugio del Fargno is in the very heart of the National Park of Sibillini Mountains, 1820 meters above sea level, on Fargno mountain pass, in a mountain environment belonging to the Ussita municipality, which boasts a rich vegetal and animal variety of species. According to the season, such different vegetal species can be admired as windflowers, spontaneous orchids and crocuses, as well as such animals as wolves, Appennine chamois and eagles. The rustic style of the recently restructured lodge follows the typical mountain approach: being not connected to the usual supplying systems, it operates using its own resources without polluting the environment and nature. Its octagonal shape is meant to stand the strong winds blowing through the Fargno mountain pass. Due to the strong snowfalls that make the roads impassable, the lodge, equipped with comfortable beds, operates only from the first of May till October 31, provided the weather makes it possible. Two unpaved roads get to the lodge: the first, 13 kilometers long, starts from Casali di Ussita; the other, 6 kilometers long, is shorter but more rugged, starts at Pintura di Bolognola, in the Macerata province. Rifugio del Fargno is a destination most loved by bikers and motorcyclists, who get there to admire its beautiful panoramas as well as to have a rest and enjoy the tasty warm meals prepared with high quality ingredients in its kitchen. Excursions can be made starting from the lodge to such mountain tops and promontories, standing out at more than 2,000 meters above sea level, as Monte Priora alias Pizzo della Regina (Peak of the Queen, 2,332 meters high), Pizzo Tre Vescovi (Three Bishops Peak, 2,092 meters high) and Pizzo Berro (2,260 meters high), and admire breathtaking landscapes ranging from Monte Vettore to Monte Rotondo and, in bright days, up to Majella and Gran Sasso mountains and even down to the Adriatic Sea.
