San Benedetto del Tronto - The 'Virgin of the sea' Cathedral

The original project. dating back to the half of the 19th century, was carried out by the Bolognese architect Gaetano Ferri and later modified several times by the intervention of other professionals. The Cathedral was opened to public in 1908. Only after the Second World War, architects decided to build the external stairs and the main facade in Renaissance style using the local travertine marble.
The Cathedral conserves the "Register of the civilian victims of the sea", containing the list of all those sailors from San Benedetto who lost their lives during their work on the sea.
