The Nature Reserve of Mount San Vicino and Mount Canfaito

 

The Nature Reserve of Mount San Vicino and Mount Canfaito covers an area of 1450 hectares of protected land; it was established in 2009. The towns included in the reserve are: San Severino, Matelica, Apiro, Gagliole. In the area there are Upper Triassic limestone formations , including Mount San Vicino and the upland of Canfaito. The most typical landscapes are: the wooded areas, the pastures, the caves and the gorges . Large beech forests can be found all over the reserve, protecting different species of wildlife, such as the wolf, the deer, the wild cat, the owl, the peregrine falcon and the woodpecker.
